In a response to a TV episode on the show Royal Pains, I analyze the claims that a high fat diet will necessarily lead to the pain associated with gout and gout attacks. The conventional wisdom seems often analogous to popular, but wrong cholesterol theorem that dietary cholesterol leads to increased cholesterol in the blood. Is the popular theory right? What is Gout? Gout is a form of arthritis that occurs when abnormally high levels of uric acid build up in the body, causing crystals to form in joints. The crystals cause sudden, severe attacks of joint pain and swelling. Uric acid is a substance that is normally released by the kidneys when the body breaks down waste products called purines. When the kidneys are no longer able to flush uric acid out of the body properly, it crystallizes and accumulates around the joints. Misconception that Atkins is only acidic foods: Alkaline Foods Extremely Alkaline Forming Foods – pH 8.5 to 9.0: Cantaloupe, Cayenne (Capsicum), Kelp, Melons, Watercress, Seaweed Moderate Alkaline Forming Foods – pH 7.5 to 8.0 Alfalfa sprouts, Avocados, Berries, Carrots, Celery, Lettuce (leafy green), Peas (fresh sweet), Pumpkin (sweet), Spinach, Bell Pepper, Broccoli, Cabbage, Kale, Kohlrabi, Lettuce (pale green), Strawberry, Squash , Sweet corn (fresh), Sour Dairy Slightly Alkaline to Neutral Forming Foods – pH 7.0 Almonds , Artichokes (Jerusalem), Brussel Sprouts, Coconut (fresh), Cucumbers, Egg plant, Onions, Tomatoes (sweet), Mayonnaise (home made … Video Rating: 5 / 5
After decades of low fat, low calorie diets we still have an epidemic level of obesity in our populations. This is because these weight loss methods work only short term. They don’t provide a correct nutritional approach to weight loss. People cant go through life counting calories and starving themselves year after year. This is not the long term solution. I will explain in simple terms what the real solution is and easy it can be. It comes down to one natural principle, “get back to nature”. Avoid processed, refined, artificial man made food. It has no life left in it and it will drain the life from you. Connect with nature, not just with your food, but with the air, light, water and spirit that created it in the first place. Healing is what we need and that is what plants, herbs and nature does best. It heals us. The long term solution is right at our fingertips.
January 17, 2008 presentation by Christopher Gardner for the Stanford School of Medicine Medcast lecture series. The case for low-carbohydrate diets is gaining weight. Christopher Gardner, PhD, assistant professor of medicine at the Stanford Prevention Research Center, has completed the largest and longest-ever comparison of four popular diets using real-world conditions, which he discusses – the lowest-carbohydrate Atkins diet came out on top. As Featured on www.geeksaresexy.net This is the First part of an Interview we did with the guys from EepyBird.com. For the second part, please hit this link www.youtube.com Two of my favorite people to interview ever- are Fritz Grobe and Stephen Yoltz of Eepybird.com, a performance troupe based in Maine. If youre anything like 40 million other people in the world, you know these guys from The Diet Coke & Mentos Experiments a recreation of the Bellagio Fountains using nothing but Diet Coke & Mentos. And while watching the Diet Coke & Mentos fountain is cool, cooler still are the minds behind the viral video sensation. I first interviewed them at a show they produced at Maker Faire Austin 2007 which is when the first part of this two-part video was filmed, and then again at Maker Faire Austin 2008, which is when the second half was filmed. In it they talk about the process behind both Mentos and the newer Post-It projects, including when 3M (the maker of Post-it notes) showed up at their house in the woods of Maine with two tons of post-it notes, when they went to Castile, Spain to set a world record and their rivalry with a business school in Riva, Latvia. All from Diet Coke & Mentos. If youre just interested in skipping the interviews and seeing a high definition, live-before-an-audience version of Diet Coke & Mentos, youll find two opportunities to skip ahead, one at 2:40 of the first video, and the other at 7:32 of the second video. But really these guys are insane …
