This is a video response to a video I had made and uploaded on 06/13/2008 titled YouTube Has Ruined My Life. I have had a ton of comments on that video and I’ve been wanting to come on here and talk about it. I also talk about what I think about the importance of children playing outdoors.

@virginiann1975 Oh yes – the street lights! How many times we came home saying we didn’t notice them coming on!

  8. virginiann1975 says:

@cah237 What I don’t understand, is even with that thought in mind, why do we hold children hostage in our homes instead of taking walks with them, going for bike rides and other outside activities? If people would realize that fresh air and exercise is not only good for our children, but for ourselves and for the whole family. Thank you for your comment, it means a lot to me!

@topCkurvy It is sad, very sad. That is why we need to accompany them. Fortunately for us we can see my grandchildren right from our front yard! My hubby took pictures of him and they look like we were only feet away! Thank you for your comment!

@MissJanieHere Thanks Janie! I know I have heard so many people with weight issues still say that they are the ones with the problem not their children. With that justification they continue to buy junk for their kids not seeing that these children are following right in their footsteps. Thank you for the comment.

@bandedwendy I have to admit it is a lot easier putting a video on for the kids to watch. But since I have struggled so much with my weight and inactivity I know it’s better for the kids and myself to get up off the couch! If we all work together we can beat child obesity. Thank you for the comment.

  12. virginiann1975 says:

@faith8412 ha! That was our rule also and you better be home shortly after those street lights come on! Good for you keeping your child active! Keep that up and your child will develop great habits! Thank you for the comments and watching my videos!

As we grew up, moms rule was when the street lights came on, we had to come in….ahh mom! I even remember getting in trouble cuz we would stretch it. I work to strike a balance with my 2 yr old. We play and use our imaginations! Now days parents don’t like to have there kiddos run the blocks. Times are chaning a bit, we could ride our bikes all over TOWN!!! I agree with outside play.

Personally I love your videos. Don’t comment alot, but you are so fun to watch!

It really is shocking. I totally agree with everything you said.

  15. bandedwendy says:

i agree, when we get comments that are not friendly i just delete and block. not worth the time. times have changed since i was a kid too. people are crazy! just be glad you are not them. lol. many parents are not responsible. they are more lazy and glued to the couch like their kids. nuts! take care and keep being you.

  16. MissJanieHere says:

so sorry to hear that happened to you. children do need more activity, i don’t understand how people can’t understand that.

  17. topCkurvy says:

You’re RIGHT it is sad that kids aren’t out playing the way we use to. I have an 11 and 10 yr old…I can’t let them out in the front yard alone, never mind “run wild”…lol… people today seem to be more unpredictable and down right scarry… I want my kids safe!!! So, we do go out with them for walks and whatnot, but really…how SAD it is that our kids are not able to take advantage and explore the way we did as kids.

  18. cah237 says:

You are so right Virginnia! And boy do I hear you about the kids playing outside thing,. Nowadays people just think some perv is going to take them the minute they’re out alone. My childhood was like yours – if I was inside I was being punished! And I raised my kids the same. They had a blast – OUTSIDE!
